A single shop or office unit is usually installed in one day. A multi room or multi split commercial system typically takes two to five days depending on pipe runs and access.

Air conditioning above 12kW combined rated output must be inspected every five years by an accredited energy assessor. The threshold adds together every unit in the building under one person's control, so four 4kW units in one office total 16kW and fall under the rule.

What to Expect When You Book an Air Conditioning Service

System and Premises Information
When you contact us to book, we'll ask about your system: the unit type (wall-mounted split, multi-split, cassette, or other), approximate age and installation year, whether you have the original installation documentation, any current operational concerns, and your property or premises type. This isn't unnecessary admin — it lets us confirm the visit is within our current service capability and identify any access or tool requirements before the engineer travels.

Scope Confirmation and Scheduling
We confirm the visit scope before booking is finalised. If there's a concern about refrigerant performance that might require F-gas-qualified circuit work, we address this before rather than after the visit. Scheduling is confirmed around your availability and, for commercial premises, around operational constraints.

The Service Visit
On arrival, the engineer introduces themselves, reviews the agreed scope with you, and carries out the service — starting from the indoor unit and working through to the outdoor unit. Where access is restricted or a planned check cannot be completed, this is noted in the service record rather than ignored.

Before leaving, the engineer discusses what was found — what's in good condition, what was cleaned or adjusted, and anything that warrants attention. You'll know what the service record says before it's handed or sent to you.

Why commercial air conditioning is harder in Portsmouth than most cities
Portsmouth is one of the most densely built cities in the country and sits almost entirely on Portsea Island. That creates four specific problems for commercial cooling, and all four are solvable if they are dealt with at survey rather than after equipment is ordered.

There is nowhere obvious to put the condenser.
City centre retail on Commercial Road and Palmerston Road, independent units along Albert Road in Southsea, and period premises around Old Portsmouth typically have no yard, no side access and very little external wall that is not shared or overlooked. Flats above shops make noise a live issue. This is usually the first thing we solve, and a multi split arrangement often answers it because it needs only one external position.

Salt air corrodes outdoor units faster here
Premises near Southsea seafront, around Old Portsmouth and Spice Island, at Port Solent, and out towards Hayling Island and Gosport sit in salt laden air. Standard condenser coils corrode noticeably quicker in these positions. Where a property is genuinely coastal we specify coated coils and build outdoor unit cleaning into the maintenance schedule, which protects the life of the equipment you are paying for.

Permissions take longer than people expect.
Conservation areas in Old Portsmouth and parts of Southsea, listed buildings around the Historic Dockyard and the older commercial centre, multi tenant buildings with a managing agent, and leasehold units all restrict where plant can go. Air conditioning does not carry the same permitted development rights as air source heat pumps. Check with Portsmouth City Council and read your lease before ordering equipment. We raise this during the survey so it does not stall the job.

A retail unit on Commercial Road, a restaurant in Gunwharf Quays or an office at Lakeside North Harbour cannot shut for three days. The 12kW rule that catches Portsmouth businesses out
