🚨 Emergency Gas Leak Repaired at a Portsmouth Restaurant 🚨

This morning started with an urgent call from a restaurant in Portsmouth after staff noticed the smell of gas coming from their commercial kitchen. They quickly identified that the leak appeared to be coming from their commercial cooker and did exactly the right thing by stopping use of the appliance and calling a Gas Safe registered engineer immediately.
When I arrived on site, I carried out a full inspection of the installation to identify the source of the leak. It soon became clear that the gas pipe supplying the commercial cooker had been damaged and had actually pulled apart, allowing gas to escape. A fault like this poses a significant safety risk, not only to staff working in the kitchen but also to customers and neighbouring properties, so it needed to be dealt with as a matter of urgency.
The first priority was to isolate the gas supply and make the area safe before beginning any repair work. Once the damaged section of pipework had been removed, I installed a new section of pipe, ensuring everything was correctly supported and securely connected. After completing the repair, I carried out a full gas tightness test and pressure test on the installation to confirm there were no further leaks anywhere on the system.
With the pipework confirmed as sound, I recommissioned the appliance, checked that it was operating correctly, and carried out all the necessary safety checks to ensure the restaurant could continue trading safely and with complete confidence.
Situations like this are a reminder of just how important it is to take any smell of gas seriously. Gas leaks can occur without warning and should never be ignored. Acting quickly can prevent serious incidents, protect lives, and minimise disruption to your business.
